TEDxFtLaud cancelled; cold fusion talk with it

Saturday’s TEDxFtLaud event at Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida has been cancelled.

TEDxFtLaud is an independently produced event based on the TED talks originating in California, US. “TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience” with TEDx events all around the world.

Cold Fusion Now’s own Ruby Carat was scheduled to speak on Commercial Cold Fusion: the Viable Alternative Energy at the all day event along with 11 other speakers on a variety of topics and 6 performers.

TEDxFtLaud

One of the coordinators of TEDxFtLaud wrote in an email “Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control, the organizers of the event have made the executive decision to postpone TEDx Fort Lauderdale until 2012”.

No reason was given but the decision was made “after much heartfelt deliberation” and that “our utmost priority is to our patrons, sponsors and speakers and at this time, the event cannot be produced with the quality and caliber that the TED brand denotes.”

It was disappointing news.

A friend had alerted Cold Fusion Now to the TEDxFtLaud event earlier in the season and we submitted our video “Cold Fusion Five: The 5 World Changing Benefits of Cold Fusion Technology” as an application. The organizers responded positively and we were invited to speak.

The planned 18-minute talk largely followed the video script beginning with the E-Cat news, running through a bit more history with Drs. Fleischmann and Pons, and why reproducibility problems thwarted acceptance of their claims.

Touching upon the CBS 60 mins piece on Energetics Technologies and Dr. Robert Duncan’s investigation of their claims, we planned to inform the audience of the emerging service environment that promises to bring this new energy technology into the public consciousness, despite the continuing mixed federal interest.

After showing the weaknesses of conventional alternative energy technologies, we’d end with the top five benefits of cold fusion. All in 18 minutes!

Their website www.tedxftlauderdale.com will remain active and be updated when the new date is chosen.

Who knows what will transpire between now and then or what new developments will be stretching the possibilities for our future. Whatever happens, Cold Fusion Now believes there is nothing more important than finding a new arrangement for living on planet Earth.

A clean energy technology based on cold fusion will go a long way to providing humanity the opportunity and means to develop the structure, and find the wisdom, to live in peace with all life on this planet.

Why not live for something greater than yourself.
Dr. Jan Marwan told us how easy it really is.

“Start talking wherever you are, in your family, at work, when you’re in governmental institutions, start talking. The more you talk about this topic, the more you raise it, the more you involve other people, …you know… it spread’s like a virus!”

Starting 2012 with Cold Fusion 101

A new short course on cold fusion science and technology sponsored by the Engineering and Computer Science departments at Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be held in January 2012 during institute’s Independent Activities Period.

Designed for MIT students, Cold Fusion 101: Introduction to Excess Power in Fleischmann-Pons Experiments addresses the early history of cold fusion science beginning with the analysis of the original palladium-deuterium type systems that Drs. Fleischmann and Pons used in their research during the late 1980s.

Peter Hagelstein of MIT Electrical Engineering is leading the class with Mitchell Swartz of Jet Energy in a technical overview of theory and experimental electro-chemistry over seven days January 23-27, 30, 31 from 11AM-12:30PM.

Peter Hagelstein will co-teach Cold Fusion 101 at MIT

Nickel-hydrogen systems will also be addressed with a look at Francesco Piantelli‘s experiments. Professor Piantelli collaborated with Sergio Focardi generating energy by combining hydrogen and the metal nickel in the mid-nineties, research which inspired Andrea A. Rossi‘s E-Cattechnology.

Dr. Hagelstein has been exploring the theoretical aspects of cold fusion looking to find a model of the reaction. He is also involved experimentally through the design of thermal diodes, a technology which promises a more efficient thermoelectric conversion, the process whereby heat energy is converted into usable electricity. He was quoted in this article of 2009Turning Heat into Electricity” about this research.

Most recently, Dr. Hagelstein spoke as part of Cold Fusion Energy Inc at the World Green Energy Symposium held in Philadelphia, PA this past October.

Mitchell Swartz
JET Energy, Inc's Mitchell Swartz with students at MIT
Dr. Swartz will discuss experimental results from the Jet Energy lab where he developed the Phusor generator. Preferring the terminology Lattice Assisted Nuclear Reactions LANR to describe his research, he hosts Colloquium on LANR/CFat MIT annually.

Reviews of the Colloquium can be downloaded from Infinite Energy here for Part 1 and Part 2.

You can read the scientific papers of both Dr. Hagelstein and Dr. Swartz on the International Society of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science‘s Library page, and it’s pretty heady stuff.

While the course is designed for the students at MIT, special candidates may be able to attend with prior instructor approval.

Cold Fusion Energy, Inc. debuts at World Green Energy Symposium

A new company called Cold Fusion Energy, Inc has procured a booth at the World Green Energy Symposium to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA this upcoming Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday October 19, 20, and 21.

They will be handing out information about LENR/LANR/cold fusion science and technology from a “prime location” at Booth #5 on the floor of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Included in the giveaways will be free Cold Fusion Now stickers and printed materials compliments of Infinite-Energy magazine, a continuing supporter of cold fusion outreach events.

World Green Energy Symposium 2011Attending the Symposium will be scientists and researchers involved in green energy, sustainability experts, industry leaders and top government officials from countries around the globe. Representing the cold fusion field will be Peter Hagelstein, electrical engineer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and cold fusion theorist. Joining him are Georgy Miley, a nuclear and electrical engineer from University of Illinois, and Xing Zhong Li, a fusion physicist from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China and current President of the International Society of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science ISCMN.

All three are scheduled as speakers and have long-time experience in LENR research, including attendance and presentations at the ISCMN conferences where new-energy researchers from around the world gather to share results of their innovative work. The most recent ICCF-16 was held in Chenai, India this past February. ICCF-17 will be held in Daejeon, South Korea next August 2012.

The Symposium agenda has Peter Hagelstein leading the discussion “Cold Fusion” on Day 2 Thursday October 20 at 3:30PM Eastern time. The talks will be recorded and available on the Cold Fusion Energy, Inc blog afterwards.

Keith Owens, the CEO of Cold Fusion Energy, Inc. will also be speaking at the event. A passionate activist for a new energy paradigm, Mr. Owens recently asked the Department of Energy DOE to clarify their policy towards cold fusion research. The response, from the Office of Fusion Science, the hot fusion group, misstated the conclusion of the DOE’s 2004 review of the LENR field saying “that review reached essentially the same conclusion as the 1989 review.”

The 1989 review recommended against funding LENR/LANR/cold fusion research. However, the 2004 DOE review claimed “The nearly unanimous opinion of the reviewers was that funding agencies should entertain individual,well-designed proposals for experiments that address specific scientific issues relevant to the question of whether or not there is anomalous energy production in Pd/D systems, or whether or not D-D fusion reactions occur at energies on the order of a few eV.”

To date, not one proposal has been funded by the DOE.

While the Review states “The reviewers believed that this field would benefit from the peer-review processes associated with proposal submission to agencies and paper submission to archival journals”, conventional science journals refusal to publish cold fusion research is based on the DOE’s lack of recognition of the field, a veritable catch-22.

Mr. Owens, who says “Cold fusion is here, and needs to be taken seriously”, formed Cold Fusion Energy, Inc as a vehicle to liaison between scientists and engineers involved in cold fusion research and the business community in an effort to fund development of clean new-energy technology. Their presence at the World Green Energy Symposium is their first official exhibit, and is a result of a press contact encountered at the 2011 LANR/CF Colloquium at MIT held this past June.

If you are interested in supporting Cold Fusion Energy, Inc.’s mission, contact Keith Owens here.

New video on ecatdotcom channel

A fresh, expertly edited video was posted up on the ecat.com website. It’s another inside look at the October 6 demonstration of Andrea A. Rossi‘s E-Cat unit.

Also available on the ecatdotcom youtube channel, there is indication that more footage and interview will be released soon from this very professional crew.

New Fire Economy
One US 5 cent coin has enough nickel to
generate E-Cat energy equal to 5 barrels of oil.

Let’s add this look from Radio Città del Capo, in Italian, too. Read their summary of the event here.

Updates on the OCT. 6 E-Cat Test

On October 6th the E-Cat was tested in Bologna, and initial reports back were positive: The E-Cat ran in self sustain mode for over 3 hours.

NyTeknik promised a more thorough follow up article the next day and that, along with a new video of the E-Cat from the demonstration can be found here – NyTeknik article + video

Within this article is a link for a more detailed report and temperature data as well.

Also of note in the article, is the business side of things. The U.S. partner, to whom the one megawatt heat plant was to be shipped to for the end of October test, is no longer. The shipment was blocked due to the final agreement not being satisfactory to Mr. Rossi and his legal team. So it appears the partnership is off, as of now. But, he still maintains that the October launch is on, though the whereabouts not announced.

PESWiki continues to provide updated accounts of the October 6th aftermath, including an email they received today from Rossi – PESWiki Updates

Stay tuned, and in the meantime enjoy the E-Cat music video by The Tom and Doug Show in the post below. Andrea Rossi saw it and responded:

VERY, VERY NICE SONG AND VIDEO!
