It’s Still All About Energy

Japan marks the third anniversary of the Fukushima tsunami-quake disaster from Deutsche Welle.

“We have to engage in the preventative care” for the planet, says U.S. Senator Ed Markey, during an all-night filibuster towards a new energy policy. Markey has been contacted multiple times about the solution that cold fusion offers, but he has yet to take any action.

So on this sad day when the world careers from one disaster to another and solutions are ignored, and denied, Ralph Nader cuts through the image created by media programming to expose the mechanisms that operate to make that situation turn in favor of the powerful, instead of the wise.

http://www.democracynow.org/2014/3/12/nader_on_senates_climate_stance_insanity

Nader responds to the seemingly impending Keystone pipeline, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Agency, and Fukushima, a tragedy still unfolding. Amateur-lenr blogger and author Toshiro Sengaku has updated English readers with news about an effort to use nano-particles in radioactive waste clean-up.

“It’s not worth the risk! Just to boil water – just to produce steam! … Shut down the aging nuclear plants!” says Ralph Nader.

Unfortunately, he uses the word nuclear as a reference to all bad, all the time.

He says on Democracy Now with Amy Goodman how we need “fusion power … from the sun”.

He mentions Al Gore, who we know has openly offered cold fusion as a path to a green economy, but Mr. Nader said nothing about that.

Still, he inspired me to write about the opportunity we have to change our way living, change our bad habits – change everything, with any one of several breakthrough energy technologies, and the suffering that will only increase unless we do choose a different path for our species.

I haven’t been blogging lately, and there have been recent losses to the community of scientists with the passing of Emilio Del Giudice and Peter Graneau.

But Cold Fusion Now continues activities off-the-Internet. (Try it!) I will attend the 2014 LANR/CF Colloquium this March 21-23 to gather video for a feature film on the field. Along with Jeremy Rys, we will interview and document the historic 25-year anniversary of the announcement of cold fusion by Drs. Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons, who endured the hostility from their peers reserved only for the most courageous and bold of humans, those who dare speak the truth, honestly, and though disruptive a truth it may be, do not shy away from challenge and mystery, but act without malice and without fear to follow that truth wherever it may lead.

Twenty-five years and going stronger than ever, the breakthrough energy community is growing, and getting closer to a technology that will revolutionize our world and offer a second chance for humanity. The colloquium will bring some of the world’s top researchers together to talk about the progress, and the problems that remain.

From the New Energy Movement Seattle chapter’s John Coelho, here is a list of just some of the groups who are working on this science:

President Obama and LENR Energy – Cold Fusion Now

Is President Barrak Obama or MIT aware of developments in LENR Energy?

MIT blocked funding to cold fusioneer Haglestein for LENR Energy research in 2012.

Obama is mute concerning NASA and SPAWAR breakthrough LENR Energy (popular cold fusion) research and engineering.

Here’s an announcement from Mitchell Swartz’s Cold Fusion Times web site of a conference to be held at MIT on March 21-23, 2014, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Pons-Fleischmann news conference where they introduced their cold fusion research to the world. I expect more details will be forthcoming.

Science journal rejections suppress clean energy research

JCMNSlogoThe recently published Volume 12 December 2013 Journal of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science has an article detailing censorship by science journals.

How the Flawed Journal Review Process Impedes Paradigm Shifting Discoveries” by P.A. Mosier-Boss, L.P. Forsley, and F.E. Gordon describes the experience of these researchers as they submitted papers describing their low-energy nuclear reaction (LENR ) experiments to mainstream science journals.

From the Abstract:

The purpose of scientific journals is to review papers for scientific validity and to disseminate new theoretical and experimental results. This requires that the editors and reviewers be impartial. Our attempt to publish novel experimental results in a renowned physics journal shows that in some cases editors and reviewers are not impartial; they are biased and closed-minded. Although our subject matter was technical, its rejection was not: it was emotionally charged. It was an agenda-laden rejection of legitimate experiments that were conducted in US DoD and DoE laboratories. This paper describes the flawed journal review process, detailing our own case and citing others. Such behavior on the part of editors and reviewers has a stifling effect on innovation and the diffusion of knowledge.
© 2013 ISCMNS. All rights reserved. ISSN 2227-3123

Noting that the rejection of revolutionary science “is hardly a new phenomenon”, the authors quote from Responsible Conduct of Research by A.E. Shamoo and D.B. Resnik:

History provides us with many examples of important theories that were resisted and ridiculed by [reviewers of] established researchers, such as Gregory Mendel’s laws of inheritance, Barbara McLintock’s gene jumping hypothesis, Peter Mitchell’s chemiosmostic theory, and Alfred Wegener’s continental drift hypothesis. –Shamoo and Resnik

Shamoo and Resnick explain what these decisions regarding new energy research have meant:

As a result of this controversy, it has been difficult to conduct peer-reviewed work on cold fusion, because mainstream physics journals select reviewers with strong biases against cold fusion.

Boss, Forsely, and Gordon had submissions to journals rejected by reviewers who knew little about the phenomenon or the instruments involved, and didn’t attempt to learn. The authors found “the lack of curiosity and the unwarranted, surprisingly emotional responses” shown by some reviewers “disturbing”.

The consequences are far-reaching:

One immediate and long lasting effect of journals refusing to publish papers on as yet controversial observations is the elimination of a field of research and the diminution of scientists and engineers working in it. Without peer-reviewed publications, university faculty are precluded from funding as well as students, as no student will pursue an unrecognized field where jobs do not exist. Scientists are unable to find funds or management support. Entrepreneurs are limited because it is not likely that corporate angels or venture capitalists will risk funds on a technology, which is denigrated by leading scientists and subject to ridicule. In 1991, Nobel Laureate Julian Schwinger [38] aptly summarized the problem when he wrote:

“The pressure for conformity is enormous. I have experienced it in editors’ rejection of submitted papers, based on venomous criticism of anonymous referees. The replacement of impartial reviewing by censorship will be the death of science.”

Indeed, this whole situation is a “Catch-22” [39]; a situation named for the war novel in which a pilot who claims he is crazy so he wouldn’t have to fly missions, but by refusing to fly missions he proved he was sane! Our Catch-22 is that both DoE and DoD have unequivocally stated that until “first-tier” journals, like Science and Nature, publish papers inn this field, they will not fund programs. But, editors of these journals have stated they would not publish papers without DoE acceptance of the phenomena: a Catch-22. –Mosier-Boss, Forsley, and Gordon.

The Journal of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science (JCMNS) is published by the International Society of Condensed Matter Nuclear Science (ISCMNS).

Fusion/Super Energy Now- Petition

The petition for this is renewed, because of issues with the other petition provider.

Cold Fusion atomic energy has been ignored and pushed aside in discussions/ presentations about alternative energy for too long. Advantages include little/no radioactive decay matter, and extremely high energy output.

As an example, 1 or 2 future-generation generators themselves could power a metropolis city the size of Los Angeles, California for a month on one small supply of common inexpensive elements.

Current energy generation comes from more than 5-sources. World leaders in nations/unions such as Japan, The United States of America, Russia, South Africa, The European Union, and so on have the ability and power to fully engage in the building mass energy production plants now.

“Nuclear fission power plants and weapons are dangerous.”

Connect DOE Department of Energy LENR Cold Fusion

To the DOE Office of Information

This is the connection I have been looking for since I became interested in LENR.  The article is about DOE or so it says and it is correct, except it is really about the part of DOE called NNSA, National Nuclear Security Administration, which is nominally a part of DOE but it is not really the Energy part of DOE but the military/nuclear weapons part.
.
Is this a recent revelation to you or have you known about this for some time?  No one has ever mentioned to me that NNSA has funded research on LENR, possibly since the beginning in 1989.  I would really like to know why NNSA cancelled their LENR research a little over a year ago.
.
I am not quite sure why this seems like such a big deal to me, but it does.  I will have to take some time to think over this.

Disconnected DOE

For some time now, since www.science.gov and www.scienceaccelerator.gov first appeared, both of which are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) and Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), there is still “0” information at the DOE’s home page, www.energy.gov, with respect to either LENR or Cold Fusion.

This is hard to understand in light of the fact both the aforementioned web sites have better than 1,000 selected pieces of information from NASA and many of the other National Labs and Universities.

WHY DOES THE DOE LAG BEHIND?

Something nags me about the state of denial that exists at their home page.

Can someone fill me in?
